Ah, Scandal.

It’s what makes all those dreary news stories about the ravages of disease, the helplessness of the downtrodden and the calamity of global warming seem bearable. Oh, and speaking of the ravages of disease, doctors for the Republican Party have recently downgraded their condition from critical to hanging on for dear life. As you may or may not know, the GOP suffers from an acute case of Hypocrisitis. Symptoms are marked by ruthless attacks on Democrats while conveniently ignoring like-minded behavior by Republicans. It turns out that while, yes, Democratic Senatorial challenger, Congressman Harold Ford Jr. of Tennessee, did unwittingly accept campaign contributions from the Adult Entertainment industry he promptly returned them. This marks a sharp contrast to those that were, are and probably will continue to be accepted by the Republican National Committee. According to a recent post in Talking Points Memo, Nicholas T. Boyias of Marina Pacific Distributors – one of the largest distributors of gay porn – has donated money quite regularly to their cause. And while Mr. Marshall of TPM commendably notes that, “I consider pornography not only a legal but a morally unobjectionable product,” the real nugget here is the further crystallization of the idea that the GOP is home to every self-loathing, closeted homosexual you can shake a stick at. (Can anyone say Jeff Gannon?) Pound for pound, I personally think Mark Foley is hotter than Barney Frank and overall Republicans are better-looking than Democrats, but I still wouldn’t pick looks over brains any day of the week. And right now, things aren’t even looking good for Republicans.
